About…

Information is the basis for making all our personal and business decisions based on what we hope is the best available at the time we need it. Asking the right questions and finding the correct information from trusted sources is fundamental.

The world is blithely buying into the fiction of AI necessity and superiority (despite ongoing demonstrated failures). Those who can recognize the biases and anomalies introduced by AI-augmented search and the information based upon it, who know how to vet and establish fundamental sources, who challenge the veracity of what has become “received knowledge,” will succeed. AI is a problem, not a cure-all. My name is Len Romanick. I’m a genuine asset who has been doing this since 2007, and as you have read and will continue to read, I am not a fanboy of the AI wave. Quite the opposite. And for good reason.

Examine the past, the present, the future™

Most researchers will look for exactly what the client asks, exactly as asked. No more, no less. They will usually limit their search to what they can find on the web. All information is not available on the web, and what is, is not always freely available. There are paywalls, controlled access repositories, and information that has never been digitized. Will you need it? Can you find it?

I have found that clients think they have a firm idea of the information they need, but it is often based on asking the wrong questions. QuidProKnow,™ playing on the Latin denoting the exchange of services, goods, or favors, signifies my approach. I take time to engage in a probing conversation about what you are thinking and why, to frame the right questions to find the information you need. A little quid pro can end up with a lot more know.

A healthy skepticism provides a judicious balance when evaluating information that is the basis of important decisions. I specialize in being The Contravant™: a cautionary skeptic and contrarian—a devil's advocate, vetter, and scrutineer; challenging the veracity of static, legacy knowledge, things being considered, as well as things not considered.

“AI” is being included in everything possible as fast as possible. Is this truly a valuable adjunct ot just marketing hype? The need for real intelligence, experience, and skepticism is a requirement to getting the right information. So-called AI-assisted search and the content returned is deeply flawed. The product and the tech must be vetted. All the time.

natiral photography as visual narrative

Our technical “progress” is disconnecting humanity from the natural world around us. We are out of sync to the detriment of both.

I have produced primarily documentary natural photography for over 15 years. Photography records reality and the natural actual world as layers of dense visual information. Good photographs draw attention to their depth and detail. Their inclusion with a supporting narrative can produce powerful photo studies. The combination conveys exponentially greater information than either form by itself.

The rush to assimilate AI into as many things as possible, including the introduction of AI-based generative tools to create alleged realistic “art,” has exacerbated our separation from reality. Those who profess to be experts with these tools claim to create imagery indistinguishable from [the oxymoron] “real photography.”

The reality is that they are blind to how instantly recognizable as unreal (in so many ways) their “art” is, yet blindly accepted as such by so many, proving how out of touch we are becoming with both the natural world and reality in general. Articles and posts about this new tech are conflating AI-generative imagery with photography, and I won’t stand for it. Such claims are fraud in every sense of the word.

The concept of digital assets is constantly expanding. They are a critical component of your online presence that must be regularly reviewed and treated as seriously as any other traditional asset.

My specialty here is limited to the information projected in domain names and approaching them as long-term capital assets as a major cog in your branding strategy. They are an evocative icon in word form: a nom de brand diginonce.
